The UAE experienced a dramatic dip in temperatures as Jebel Jais, the country’s highest peak in Ras Al Khaimah, recorded a bone-chilling 1.9℃ at 5 a.m. on Saturday. This comes just a day after the mercury dropped to 2.2℃ in the same area.
The cold spell resulted in frost formation across the mountain. Early risers witnessed a rare sight: ice crystals floating in water streams and forming on car roofs, painting a winter wonderland on the typically warm UAE landscape.
Freezing Temperatures Captured
While the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) officially recorded the 1.9℃ temperature, some reports suggest the mountain’s temperature may have plummeted to 0℃, the freezing point of water.
Elsewhere in the UAE, Umm Al Quwain experienced an early morning chill of 8℃, with the Falaj Al Mualla area recording an even colder 7℃.
Rainy Conditions Across the UAE
Friday’s cold weather was accompanied by moderate to heavy rainfall across six emirates, including Abu Dhabi and Dubai. However, Saturday was forecasted to have fair to partly cloudy skies with no rainfall anticipated, according to the NCM.
