Cheeyappara Waterfalls | Munnar | Idukki

The Cheeyappara Waterfall is located on the Kochi-Madurai Highway, between Neriamangalam and Adimali, in Idukki district, Kerala, India. It cascades down in seven steps, making it a great place for trekking. There is no entry fee for the Cheeyappara Waterfalls.

The Cheeyappara Waterfall falls like a feather from the top of the mountain and is a favorite stop for tourists visiting Munnar. Unfortunately, there are no amenities available for tourists at this destination.

7 Tiers Waterfalls

The waterfall flows from the top of the steep cliffs and below the national road in seven tiers, which can all be distinguished. Bathing and taking pictures here is a charm for tourists, and during a good monsoon, the water splashing on the road is a beautiful sight. Since the waterfall is located in the forest, tourists can observe various wild animals and birds.

Some suggestions in summer

Although the flow is low during the rainy season, the waterfall dries up when the summer heat sets in. It has been a long time since the Panchayat and the District Tourism Council started discussing the plan to keep the Cheeyappara waterfall active all year round. The water from the Khuthirkuthi area reaches Cheeyapara via a stream.

Cheeyapara is a huge waterfall when the stream overflows during the rainy season. If a dam is built in this stream and water is brought to Cheiyapara in summer or water is brought from Avarukutty river, there will be a waterfall here for 12 months.

Necessary facilities

The Cheeyappara waterfall is located in the forest area, and the forest department should take the initiative to prepare the necessary infrastructure. Eco-tourism should be implemented here, and facilities such as vehicle parking should be provided. A ropeway system should be arranged from the road to allow visitors to enjoy the waterfall’s beauty.

Tourists can view and take pictures of the waterfall from a distance. Charging a small fee for this can generate income. If facilities are provided for bathing in the waterfall, the number of tourists will double. It is essential to prioritize vehicle parking and infrastructure. Arrangements should be made for tourists to enjoy forest beauty.
