Kottappara Hills, also known as Kottappara Mala, is a scenic Hilltop viewpoint located in the Idukki District of Kerala, which is famously known as “God’s Own Country”.
To reach Kottappara hills, you need to travel approximately 22 kilometers from the nearest town, Thodupuzha, or around 2 kilometers from Vannapuram, a smaller town near the destination. The only way to reach the destination is via a road that is not in the best condition. However, once you start the uphill climb, you will be rewarded with beautiful scenery on both sides of the road.
How to reach Kottappara?
If you are coming from a far distance, set your maps towards either Thodupuzha or Vannapuram, depending on your convenience. Once you reach either of these places, it would be better to ask the local people for guidance, as they will gladly assist you. This is necessary because there are several smaller roads, and you might get confused about which one to take.
If you take the correct route, you will encounter steep uphill sections that may be challenging for vehicles with engine capacities below 100cc. However, once you begin the ascent, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views and numerous picturesque locations, perfect for capturing memorable photographs.
Once you near the destination, the road becomes flat for a few meters, and you will find numerous bikes parked in front of a statue of St. Mary. That is where you can park your bikes and proceed with a 100-meter walk. At the end of the walk, you will reach an opening that offers a breathtaking view of the entire lower ranges and the charming small towns below. It is an incredibly pleasant sight to behold.
