Ezharakund is a beautiful and adventurous waterfall located in the Kannur district of Kerala, close to the Kerala-Karnataka border. Visiting this waterfall promises a wonderful experience. The District Tourism Promotion Council has done an excellent job in developing the infrastructure at this site.
Ezharakund waterfall consists of seven levels of rocky natural pools of various sizes and depths. At certain points, there are guards to ensure safety. To reach the main waterfall, there is a trek of approximately 2 km from the base. The Tourism Department has recently constructed a pedestrian path from the Chathamala Facility Centre to the waterfalls. You can easily reach the base by vehicle and then proceed to trek upwards. Along the way, there are designated areas where visitors can enjoy bathing.
There is an entrance fee of ₹ 100, and helmets and life jackets will be provided for safety. For those who have difficulty trekking upwards, there is also a road option to reach the top. Additionally, there are bathroom and changing rooms located near the ticket counter. There is plenty of parking space available, and there is also a café conveniently located near the entrance.
Where is Ezharakund Waterfalls
Ezharakund is located approximately 60 km away from Thalassery, and the journey involves navigating through winding roads. To reach the basecamp, one must embark on a steady climb. The trek to the topmost falls covers a distance of around 1.3 km. The walkway is paved with small rocks. The metal siderails are helpful for climbing. There are many small bodies of water, out of which five have been cordoned off from the deep end. These areas are staffed by a lifeguard and equipped with good life jackets. The topmost waterfall is quite deep, reaching a depth of 20 feet. There are changing rooms near each waterfall. Since we had small kids, we chose a small water body that was about 4 feet deep for a dip.
